Consumer Evaluations

I have gone via pretty a lot all of the step three critique books in the marketplace such as FA, Crush step 3, the nail the board, Board and ward, and Powerful Medicine. I also have read the Kaplan Q book step three
This volume surpass all of the above in terms of the good quality of content material, amount of fine detail, board relevancy, and the author's special insights into the material as a really good teacher himself.
He tend to shed a lot of beneficial insight into the board questions. I had met him when in individual when I was a medical student at the FHMC in Queens, NY.
But this book is not perfect (There is no such issue as a perfect board evaluation book, we all know it). I wish there are additional full index, which is quite bad and as well brief. It takes some time to obtain a subject with "rushed out" sort of index.
Also, there are a handful of errors. It says that Mitral valve prolapse with even regurgitaion does not desire endocarditis Prophylaxis but I have been able to verify with a handful of medical references such as Harrison-the current update- and Washington manual that MR with regurgitation desires prophylaxis.
the author boldly claims that there is no prophylatic therapy for cluster headache with some rather unconvincing logic, but I have read from a lot of respectful sources that beta blockade or Calcium channel blockade should be offered for prophylatic RX for cluster HA.
I also discovered this misleading facts about ASCUS in Pap smear results. It says that if pap outcomes in ASUC, the patient desire HPV testing, But it does not mention the essential reality that if the patient is a high threat group, ASUCS have to mandate immediate Colposcopy biopsy.
Other shortcoming is the Leukemia section, which he pretty much neglect to cover the crucial facts about ALL and AML but throw in really vague mixed specifics below title "Acute leukemia".
Other than the index, it is a decent volume and fairly affordable priced.
I would not recommend it as a sole overview supply although. Step three appear to ask the understanding of the concepts and application of the further managements contrast to the step 2 which is much more of recognition of the key words and traditional signs. Thus I reject this book's so named Guarantee passing score Claim....I very advise a second critique book beside this for a superior efficiency on step 3.It is certainly unreasonable to claim that this book has "everthing" to do pass step three.
I never ever advise Strong Medicine, which is consistent of skeletal bullet list of the info without having no actual bread and butter for each and every illness presentation. This book fails to demonstrate the competency and self-confidence of the material presented with a fair quantity of wrong info as properly.
FA is also not suggested since its missing out also lots of topics and is also incredibly boring to read with tiny insights. I only use the 100 CCS situations on the back of this book.
Board and Ward is not recommended as nicely considering the fact that its too standard to tackle the step three queries, which tend to ask considerably more in dept understanding and managements than mere factual important words, which is what is all about Board and Ward. It was valuable for step two though and NBME Shelf exams.
PS: I passed the step three with 217/91%,(October 2010) which I have to give a lot of credit toward this fantastic book. Peace right after the agony of waiting for the score, which sent to me through a lengthy e-mail 12 PM, midnight third wednesday. However the matching procedure is but to be known. Profession in medicine consumes my soul and the person itself. Prayers for all.

I just purchased this book recently and have been studying with it for the Step 3 exam. If you are seeking for some thing that basically sums up the Kaplan material into one particular book, you might possibly like this. I doubt it would be the only thing you will need to score well but it certainly helps out. Certain chapters dont have as substantially material as you'd hope but the Ob/Gyn chapters in my opinion are pretty good. Then again, it is not got for the C.C.S portion of the exam. I havn't found a book that can be applied for that portion of the exam as of yet.
Combine this book with Initial Help for the Step 3 and a handful of months of UsmleWorld, it should really support out.
